Thanking Our Veterans

The MCJROTC put on a memorable event November 10 to honor military veterans in the community. MCJROTC instructors, Major Timothy Flynn and 1st Sgt Stephen Garcia and cadets were able to enlist over 100 veterans to participate this year.

“What an awesome day we had to celebrate with our veterans,” Flynn said.  “We look forward to this event each year and are always striving to include more and more veterans. We are thankful to the AHS administration and the many organizations on campus who help out each year.”

The annual Veteran’s Day event has become tradition, and featured guest speaker/Marine veteran Clifford McDonald, who is also a current welding instructor at AHS. The entire student body attended the event, which honored veterans from all branches.  After the event concluded, festivities continued at the MCJROTC obstacle course, which was renamed to the MSgt Charles Settles Obstacle Course. Settles was a longtime MCJROTC former instructor at AHS.

“Naming our obstacle course after MSgt Settles was an honor. I think this is a fantastic way to keep his memory alive at Alvin High,” Garcia said.
