Today, at approx. 1:40 pm, Alvin was lucky enough to get a view of the solar eclipse, and the students at Alvin High enjoyed the first hand look at astronomy in action. A solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the sun and Earth, blocking the sun’s light. When the moon blocks some of the sun, it’s a partial solar eclipse, but when moon lines up with the sun, blocking all of its light, a total solar eclipse occurs, according to NASA. Although, Alvin was not in the path for a full, total solar eclipse, spectators were able to watch a partial eclipse, despite worries that the weather may not allow a clear view. Although there were clouds, students and staff were happy to find that the much anticipated event was clear enough to view through special solar eclipse glasses.
