Lillie Nevills is the new AHS Color Guard Coach, she came from Louisiana and while there, she used to coach at other schools, but is now enjoying the setting here. She had originally been called to AHS to help the previous color guard director but was surprised by being informed that she would take over as coach. It was sudden, but she was sure to make the best of her situation.
She’s been working with this team since summer band of last year. She has been coaching for 2 years at AHS now.
Nevills is a big dog lover, she owns two of them and cherishes them. While she balances taking care of 12 girls, she also manages to take care of her pets at home. Remington Barret (Remi) and Beaux are the names of her sweet dogs. Remi is an Australian cattle dog mix, and is five years old. Beaux is a corgi mix and five months old. She describes them as sweet, talkative and playful. She loves going home and being able to see them and nurture them.
“One word to describe myself? Caring.” Nevills said. Coaches are easy to be close with, whether or not that is a known fact or not. Nevills makes it a point to help her team and let her team strive to be the greatest version of themselves. She is always willing to work with her team and cares for them.
She’s a former Louisiana State University student (LSU), and shows her pride by still having her old team jacket. She was in the LSU color guard and then went on to do Drum Corps International (DCI) shortly after.
Nevills described her team as great, and is always looking forward to improving. She knows how much dedication goes to the sport, and expressed her gratitude. “This is a special team and we are going to have a great season together.” Nevills said.
“An animal I think I’d be is probably a red panda, it’s my favorite animal.” Nevills said. She adores red pandas, and for a good reason: they simply exist.
